Legal proceedings by former Dublin assistant county manager, Mr George Redmond, aimed at preventing his trial proceeding on charges alleging corruption were adjourned at the High Court yesterday.
Mr Redmond is claiming there is no possibility of his being tried by an impartial and unbiased jury because of extensive adverse media coverage of his affairs and conduct.
It was stated previously that Mr Redmond was not seeking to prohibit his trial at the Circuit Criminal Court in perpetuity but was seeking to prohibit the trial until such time as "the prejudice that pertains at this time is spent". His judicial review proceedings were listed for hearing yesterday. However, Mr Patrick MacEntee SC, for Mr Redmond, said his side had on Tuesday received a considerable amount of publicity material from RTÉ relating to his client and his activities. He was instructed that material related to TV coverage of his client might become available yesterday.
Mr Patrick Gageby SC, for the DPP, said his side was anxious for the case to proceed. If material came late to the other side, he did not see any problem about it being put into the case, he added.
Mr MacEntee said he was also anxious to have the matter disposed of. Mr Justice Quirke said he would adjourn the case until today but added that he could not give any guarantee that it would get a hearing then.
