Sir, – Finola Kennedy’s piece truly strikes a chord (“Laity involvement is key to reversing decline in parishes”, Rite & Reason, November 21st).
On Sunday night we attended a concert in our local parish church, Beechwood-Ranelagh in Dublin.
It was adorned in candlelight for the occasion, close to 400 people from the community under its roof, pew to pew filled with all ages.
The church offered itself to the moving airs of talented local musicians, a balm to sooth the soul and once again offering a common home.

These spaces are truly field hospitals after battle, reflecting the need to come together within our civic community.
