Sir, – The article by columnist Michael McDowell (“No one at wheel as millions wasted in transport fiasco”, Opinion & Analysis, July 12th) outlining the expenditure on electric buses in June 2022 – which still remain unused 12 months later – and the ridiculous amount of money formally “regarded as wasted” on other transport projects comes on the same day it is estimated the total cost of the national children’s hospital could top €2 billion.
This expenditure is ultimately overseen by our elected politicians and Ministers, the same people who have been tripping over themselves in recent weeks calling for root and branch change in RTÉ.
While that change is no doubt required, perhaps a similar change is also required in the public sector. Mismanagement as outlined above in the private sector would see senior managers lose their jobs very quickly. – Yours, etc,
