Sir, – Well done to Jennifer O’Connell for writing her excellent article “Norma Foley’s anti-tradwife campaign is absurd” (August 8th).
It totally sums up the real issues facing Irish mothers today.
If Minister for Children, Disability and Equality Norma Foley thinks that a better use of taxpayers’ money is to educate the public on the perils of listening to the tradwife/manosphere influencers, then the women of Ireland really are in trouble.
Spend our money on after-school programmes for children and build more crèches.

In my mother’s era, women were forced to give up their jobs due to the “marriage bar”. Women of my generation are being denied the right to return to work due to the refusal by successive conservative governments in this country to implement proper State-run and funded childcare.
As Hanna Sheehy-Skeffington once said: “Ireland will never be free until her women are free.” – Yours, etc,
