Sir, – Breda O’Brien writes nostalgically that, as a child in the countryside, she could be out all day playing and wandering happily and that this was quite normal (“When was the last time you saw children playing outside unsupervised?”, Opinion & Analysis, August 26th).
Well, I can assure Breda that this was also perfectly normal for us city kids in Dublin.
In fact, to celebrate the centenary of the building of the Tenters housing complex in 1922-1924, a group of us seniors who grew up in the area have produced a booklet of “Tenters Tales”, covering the freedom of playing all day in the street, for distribution to the current residents, and it will also be available online. – Yours, etc,
