Sir, – As a student in Co Donegal in the late 1960s I was near the top of the class in a lot of subjects but not, unfortunately, in maths.
The maths teacher was a young priest and when I couldn’t answer a question right, he would walk up behind me and clap his hands over my ears with great force.
This burst my eardrums and left me with an enduring pain, often waking up at night disorientated from the pain in my ears.
As a boarder I had nobody to tell or help. In fact, I was completely at his mercy.
