Sir, – The Traitors Ireland has turned out to be an RTÉ masterstroke – a ratings bonanza and, one assumes, an advertising cash cow.
Had it bombed, of course, the pitchforks would already be out, with cries for inquiries into why vast sums were blown on yet another misadventure (cue the ghost of the Toy Show musical).
But here’s the thing: you can’t win without taking risks. Some gambles flop, others soar – and this one soared. So perhaps, for once, we might spare our national broadcaster the ritual flogging and instead tip our hats. – Yours, etc,
