Sir, – More roads with a 30km speed limited are to be welcomed, but without enforcement is pointless. I live on a busy road that has schools, shops and is near public transport.
There are 30km signs when turning on to the road, speed ramps and slow/children at play signs near the school. Despite the road being in poor condition and narrow in parts, speeding is a daily occurrence.
The area also suffers from drivers parking on double yellow lines and the footpaths. I have raised these issues with Dublin City Council, I have sent emails, photos and even met staff to address these concerns.
I have asked for parking enforcement to patrol the area and if a speed camera could be installed. I have been told enforcement is an issue for the Garda, yet I have never seen gardaí in the area carrying out road policing. We need more gardaí enforcing road traffic rules, especially in residential areas. An encounter with a garda, a fine and penalty points might be the only way to change driver behaviour and make them slow down. – Yours, etc,
