The day is usually marked by miserable, gloomy weather

Letter of the Day

Sir, – The choice of early February for a public holiday seems a strange one. It is usually marked by miserable, gloomy weather and relatively short days. Furthermore, the need not to incur further debt, after the excesses of Christmas, restricts possibilities.

Perhaps the only way to spend it is to follow the advice given to a pair of tourists asking what they could do on a rainy day: “If I were you I’d go back to bed”. – Yours, etc,

KEVIN HOGAN,
