Sir, – Estate agents, particularly in Dublin, appear to pitch properties way below the eventual sale price. This must be incredibly disheartening for people hoping to buy a starter home.
Rightly there are multiple protections for consumers in relation to financial services and investments. A home is the biggest investment that most people will engage in.
Protecting consumers in relation to house purchase should be a priority. Estate agents should automatically be subject to scrutiny as to why they valued any property that eventually sells for 10 per cent above their valuation. For many first time buyers it’s the hope that kills you. – Yours etc
