A chara, – Having attended the football double-header games in Croke Park on Saturday evening last (as footballing spectacles of entertainment the matches were at best, non-events), how refreshing it was to be served up the outstanding display of skill, heart, passion, professionalism and commitment that was the hurling semi-final between Galway and Tipperary the following day.
To describe it as an epic does not come even close to doing it justice. It was poetry in both motion and emotion. And while the loyal supporters from around the fields of Athenry were left in unbridled ecstasy, it seemed a tad unjust that their counterparts around the valley of Slievenamon should have been left with the bitter taste of agony.
As a neutral, I can only hope that The Déise and The Rebels serve up a similar generous helping of hurling magic next weekend. – Is mise,
