Brexit diplomacy

Sir, – With Brexit looming, we need a European solution to a British problem that allows us to avoid hard borders and punitive trade barriers with our closest neighbour.

At the same time we need to keep the Irish solution to an Irish problem that allows us to tax multinationals less than everyone else so we can continue to attract strong investment.

Never mind boosting the Garda Commissioner’s salary; we need to pay our diplomats more. – Yours, etc,
