Sir, – I must take issue with Kathy Sheridan in her criticism of councillors who vote to reduce property tax (Opinion, October 27th). The courageous decision by Dublin City Council to reduce property tax by the maximum permitted of 15 per cent will result in a saving of €211 in my liability for 2022.
This will go some way towards assisting me and my fellow residents of Dublin 6 put food on the table, among other things. Perhaps the Government might consider strengthening local government even further by increasing the amount by which local members can vary the rate of property tax; 50 per cent looks like a good round number.
