Sir, – I am astonished at the proposal that executive jets should be exempt from the proposed aircraft fuel tax ("Corporate jets to escape EU's 'green' aviation fuel tax", Business, July 13th). Is there no proper understanding in the European Commission that climate change is an existential problem which has to be dealt with now or it will be too late? Rather than encouraging such transport these planes should carry a fuel tax 10 times the standard rate. And why no tax on cargo-only flights? The whole point of dealing with climate change is that every sector, accross the world. must share the burden because we are all in it together. Right now the poorest and weakest are suffering the most but in the end we all will join them. – Yours, etc,
PATRICK DAVEY,
Shankill,
