Sir, – I attended the Taste of Dublin festival at the Iveagh Gardens in Dublin last weekend. The joy at being able to return to events like this was apparent on every face I saw. The live music was fun, the food was delicious, and the demonstrations were mouth-watering.
Most restaurants had made the effort to serve their drinks and dishes in compostable or recyclable containers. My group and I were thus totally surprised to find that there was not a recycling bin in sight, with only “general waste” bins sitting alongside the food stands. This means that during a four-day festival based entirely on consumption, all consumer waste was disposed of incorrectly.
For a festival which prides itself on being at the cutting edge of modern Irish life, this was a massive oversight, and something which must be rectified before Taste of Dublin 2022. – Yours, etc,
