Sir, – Regarding the upcoming directly elected mayor plebiscites for Cork city, Limerick and Waterford, I have yet to read any commentary on why the current system is broken and needs to be changed.
Would it not make more sense to explain to the electorate what the intended consequences of a Yes vote would be?
Why not delay the plebiscite and conduct a more informative campaign outlining what exactly the roles of the “mayor” and “chief executive” of the councils will look like rather than offer a binary choice on a matter that has so far not been substantially developed. Why the rush? – Yours, etc,
