James McClean’s future at Derry City appears in doubt amid reports he is set to part ways with the Premier Division side.
The former Republic of Ireland international signed for the Candystripes from Welsh side Wrexham in January.
On Monday, reports emerged the 37-year-old’s time with his hometown club is expected to come to an end after just a seven-month stint.
McClean recently expressed his dissatisfaction at the club while appearing as a pundit on RTÉ during the World Cup.

Following Derry’s 1-1 draw against St Patrick’s Athletic on August 2nd, McClean also remarked: “It needs to be said, we have every much as good, if not better, a squad on paper. If you watch the games, the lads aren’t losing these games based on lack of effort. So clearly there is an issue somewhere else.”
The comments came just days before Tiernan Lynch’s tenure as manager came to an abrupt end last Wednesday after 19 months in charge at the Brandywell. Mark Connolly has since taken interim charge.
McClean was last included in the squad for their Conference League home leg qualifier against Rijeka, where he was an unused substitute. His season at Derry has also been impacted by a hip injury which saw him sidelined for six games earlier in the season.
