Dennis Wise is Swindon's new player-manager and will be responsible for dragging the club out of English League Two following recent relegation.
The former England midfielder, who led Millwall to the FA Cup final in 2004, will be joined at the County Ground by his former Chelsea colleague and now new assistant Gus Poyet.
Both men have signed three-year deals.
Swindon last week parted company with Iffy Onuora after he failed to prevent relegation.
Onuora said: "Whilst I am disappointed, I understand that the club want that big name to put bums on seats early in the season, which is important.
"My argument was, and still is, that a period of longer term stability was important to the club. The new manager will want to look at the club from the bottom up." PA
